A Milestone day for the St Albans Pool group.

A Milestone day for the St Albans Pool group.

Today they have lodged their Resource Consent to re build a new community pool on the site of the historic and much loved Edgeware pool. The original pool built with funds raised by the community, was successfully operated by the St Albans Swim Club and Management Committee for 75 years until 2002 when it was taken over by the Council then demolished in 2006. Swim club secretary Val Somerville says, “This is so encouraging for our community , who have made it very clear that they want the pool back. The Swim club is preparing for a new season teaching children to learn to swim using the outdoor pool at Shirley Intermediate school until the new pool is built at Edgeware, but we are very much looking forward to having our own local facility back.” The Resource consent is a big step forward for the Pool group, who will then need to raise some big money to make the pool a reality, but they are confident the Community will step forward with full support. Pauline Cotter, a long time supporter says” The old pool brought such a richness and well being to the families who used it and a replacement pool will be of huge benefit to our post-quake society.”
